Eric is turning 17 and made very clear he wants no more childish 'surprise' party and a cassette player, not an outdated 8-rack player, but ma Kitty is as subtle as a herd of elephants preparing exactly what he dreaded. To make it worse, Eric's nasty sister Laurie, in college, is home and makes the gang boys' heads spin, Kelso even imagines her to be madly in love with him. Pa Red cheerfully gives Laurie the keys to his new car plus $30, Eric nothing except that damned 8-track and his usual chores, while barring the only escape route from Kitty's eternal baby-party.

Hyde convinced the gang it would be cool to paint a pot weed leaf on the water tower and dares Kelso to take crazy risk to fix the failure, till Michael makes a fall and badly hurts his arm, then Fez who falls but is alright. Jackie semi-nurses Kelso and makes him realize Hyde is no real friend, to little avail. When Eric seeks medical advice from his nurse mother, he gets traumatized by accidentally walking in on his parents making love.

The unsavory idea even gets Laurie's sympathy, yet he rather lets h-them thinks he's on drugs then come clean until that's done. While riding in Eric's car, Kelso has the brilliant idea to go skinny-dipping at the reservoir, but all their clothes get stolen, so the basement gang goes to the Hyde home to borrow his and his mother's clothes so they'll have something to wear. Jackie catches a cold from the reservoir, and ends up in bed. Midge's Feminist Warriors - which no other husband puts up with - keep making her crazy, yet member Sharon actually proves an old-fashioned caring housewife at heart when she finds good provider Bob feeling neglected.

Red felt with the car plant about to close down. Goodfornothing Hyde surprises everyone, even himself, responding to Kitty's maternal influence by making some efforts at study and chores, no longer 'admired' by the other boys as the perfect bad example. Eric's initial happiness with the brother he never had soon turns in frustration as Hyde constantly gets hight praise and is even set as an example for doing less and half as good, while Eric is now kid no.

3, and listens to one of Kelso's worst-advised ideas. Red's fellow Korea veteran Bull is in Point Place, showing off to him him and Bob as a success in business.

WB sells Grooves, and after a celebratory circle, Hyde decides he needs a change of lifestyle. The gang is worried about Hyde's new outlook on life, but Hyde has yet another change of heart when WB announces that he's keeping the Point Place store. A friend of Fez's shows up to take him back home; the news that he might be leaving causes Jackie to realize that she has to make a move or lose him. Donna and Randy also come to an understanding in their relationship, while Red and Kitty show their house to prospective buyers.

Jackie is stuck in the lurch when a guest suddenly cancels their appearance on 'What's Up, Wisconsin?' She needs to find a replacement, or else lose her job; so she and Fez take the place of the missing guest, pretending to be a couple in love. Christine is so impressed that she takes Jackie out for drinks after work, and spills some personal secrets, then fires Jackie for knowing too much. Donna has her eye on a special someone to ask out for Valentine's Day, but gets turned down. Red introduces Hyde to his secret stash. Kelso drops Jackie off in Chicago, but she is immediately homesick and reaches out to the gang for companionship.

Eric finds out at the last minute that Kitty deliberately hid a letter outlining the vaccination shots he’s required to have before going to Africa for the year. He has his final Circle with the guys only to finally be busted by Red! As Eric says his good-byes to everyone, Hyde talks to Leo about his true feelings for Jackie and decides to follow her to Chicagowith disastrous results. As Eric prepares to go to Africa, Kitty is still having problems dealing with his departure. Donna is also having problems; she can't come up with an appropriate going away gift, but some advice from Kitty puts her on the right track. Charlie accidentally sees Kitty naked, and his attempts at apologizing only make things worse.

Jackie is still in Point Place after telling everyone she was leaving for Chicago; her attempts to give Hyde one last last chance don't quite go the way she hopes they would. Donna and Eric are in disbelief when Kelso chooses Jackie and Hyde over them to be Betsy's godparents. On the other hand, Hyde and Angie believe there's someone breaking into the store, so Angie places a camera to see who it is. After viewing the tape, they discover it's Fez crashing there at night because his host parents kicked him out since he already graduated.

Kitty gives Fez and Kelso the idea to move in together since Kelso's house isn't safe for Betsy and Red won't allow them to stay when she visits.
